Week 34 Ireland

24 Nov

Dear Family and Friends,

Last P-day some of our zone got together and we made a video. Let me just say it was Huu-larious. We made it for a YSA competition. The theme is “missionary work.” So obviously we’ll win because we are all about that! hahaha it was so much fun and I am so excited to see all of the other ones!
We have a new friend!! Her name is Blessing. She was a former investigator from years ago! We found her record in our area book and called her up. She was delighted to hear from us and invited us over. We’ve been over there twice now and have gone over the Restoration with her. She is so so sweet! She has a 19 year old son (who we’re inviting to YSA) and they are from Nigeria. Blessing is such a wonderful woman! She LOVES the missionaries. In a prayer that she gave she said “Thank you Lord for sending these two angels… they have the knowledge of 80 or 90 year old women… but they are just babies… please protect them.” So sweet!! Then she always gives us a bag of fruit. Sis H and I are trying to serve her but she just keeps serving us! And makes us feel really good about ourselves haha. I’m excited to teach her more!
Stephen was ordained to the office of a Priest! Whoot woo! Sis H and I sat in while he was blessed and it was so wonderful! We are so proud of him! Bishop asked him to study the Gospel Principles manual and he ended up reading the whole thing in one day! haha so good. He is looking forward to receiving his Patriarchal blessing and going to the temple!!
We were able to see more members this week and get to know them better. I love the members of the Finglas ward! They are all so great!
We went to visit a member name Susan last Friday. I’ve always said hi to her at church but have never had the opportunity to sit down and get to know her. So Sis H and I did just that. She is a remarkable woman! Her family has gone through some really tough times and because of all the stress she ended up leaving the church for about 5 years. But then she came back last year! She bore beautiful testimony to us about how grateful she is to know that even when she was away, Heavenly Father was always there for her. She told us how sorry she was that she wasted 5 years. We assured her that eternity will balance it out. It reminded me of the new Mormon Message titled “Wrong Roads.” Sometimes it takes the wrong road to know the right one. Everyone should watch it! http://www.mormonchannel.org/video/mormon-messages?v=2714780496001
There are some really wonderful people in the world! The other night, while we were traveling home on the bus, and old man walked on. He was terribly slow moving and a bit blind because he had a walking stick. A young man (probably 30s) got up off of the first seat to give to the old man and moved to another. Then the old man walked right past the first seat (because he couldn’t see) then the young man reached out to the old mans hand and helped him sit down right next to him! Then for the rest of the bus ride they talked and laughed together. I heart felt so warm!! I felt a strong prompting to share something with this young man. Then the young man got up to get off. So I jumped up and went to the front where he was standing. I really don’t remember what I said but it was something along the lines of “I really appreciate your kindness” then gave him a Mormon.org card. I don’t know if he ever went on the website but I am so grateful for him and the love he shows to the people around him. It made me think about how I treat others and how I can better serve them.
Here in Dublin… since Thanksgiving doesn’t exist, it’s Christmas!!!! The city is being FILLED with lights and all the shops have immaculate window displays! I’ll have to send some pictures of it soon. There is even a HUGE tree being decorated! It’s literally beginning to look a lot like Christmas!! 🙂
I will be out 8 months in 10 days! Time is flying by!
Moves call is December 8th! It’s possible I will be transferred but I have no clue what the Lord has in store for me!
I hope everyone has a great week! I love you all so much!!!

Week 33 Ireland

24 Nov

Dear Family and Friends,

Well first and foremost, Stephen was confirmed yesterday! It was a really great Sunday! The Finglas ward is growing! Sis H and I also sang during sacrament meeting! With Jenny and Kathy (two lovely ladies in the ward!) We sang “As I Search the Holy Scriptures.” It went well considering we only went through it once 5 minutes before church started! haha
We’ve had a pretty good week. It went by super fast! I love weeks like that… Anyway, it was even better when I found out that Aubrey is having a GIRL!!! AHH! I loved finding out so early! I was totally surprised and Stephen did an awesome job with the whole thing. I can’t wait to have a niece! However, it mad me sooo homesick the next day! Geez it was terrible! But I got over it eventually and I’m fine now 🙂
We were able to visit many members this week which was really nice. Sis H and I are trying to get to know more of them so that we aren’t clueless during church. We have a really fantastic ward! I love them all.
Last Monday for P-Day, Stephen took us and the Elders out to Glendalough! (Pronounced: “glenda – lock”) It was soooo beautiful!! A picture can’t even capture the beauty! Being there really mad me feel like I was in Ireland. It also reminded me of how amazing God really is. On the way there we stopped at a castle! Well at least it use to be one… We walked around it and tried to figure out which room was what. We found a fire place and a sitting room haha. We had a lot of fun! Plus the Clonsilla missionaries joined us 🙂
For our Cottage Evening this past Wednesday Sis H and I gave a lesson on the Armor of God. We wanted to make it fun so we dressed up Elder Lauricella in a tin foil suit of armor! It was absolutely hilarious…. why? Because he started yelling things from Lord of the Rings and was really excited to have a mini sword and shield hahahaha! We got the point across best we could. The senior couple took some pictures so hopefully I’ll get one of those and send it your way!
On Tuesday we taught Nick! Nick is a man that Sis Douglas and Sis Griffin found. We figured out he lives in our area so Sis H and I taught him. We met him in a super cute cafe right by the pier in Howth. We briefly went over the Restoration and discussed the Book of Mormon. He is such a nice guy and is really searching for the truth! Stephen gave him a ride to church yesterday and he said he really enjoyed church! Then again last night and he is doing wonderful! He asks awesome questions. However, he is moving really soon so we won’t be able to teach him for very long. The YSA are friend shipping him and hopefully he will be able to attend the YSA activities!
On Thursday night we went over to the Brophys for dinner! Jenny and Podge are the cutest couple ever! We had a yummy dinner and then after, Podge went over to his desk to study math and Jenny pulled out the scrapbook she had made while they were dating. She went through the whole story of how they met and so on. So cute! They’re also expecting a baby boy in March! It was really nice to go over there and get to know them even more.
Saturday was Elder Andrews birthday! We got together at the church with the Elders, Stephen, and the McKendricks for dinner. The McKendricks bought everyone yummy Thai food! (My favorite) We had a great time celebrating with Elder Andrews. Then Stephen brought in a MASSIVE cake!!! It was all sooo yummy! And a great way to end off the week.
I just found out that a lady in my last area passed away yesterday. I’m in total shock! Sister Lewis was a dear friend of mine! But I know she is with our Heavenly Father and I know I will see her again.
My daily scripture study is so marvelous! I love reading the Book of Mormon! My hour of personal study goes by waaay to fast. I wish I had more time to read the Word of God.
I love you all so much and I hope you have a great week ahead!

Week 32 Ireland

24 Nov

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was incredible! Mostly because Stephen was baptized!!! We had such a good day yesterday! On Saturday we had our last “pre-baptism” lesson with him and went through all of the last minute items. Then Sunday finally came! We had an excellent fast and testimony meeting then, afterwords, our ward had a chew and chat. Then came time for the baptism! Most of the YSA showed up. They are so awesome and supportive! Stephen has made some really good friends in the last 8 weeks. His mom, grandparents, and best friend came also. They are so sweet and supportive of his decision! Stephen was soooo nervous!! hahaha he wouldn’t even smile in the pictures! hahaha poor guy. Everything went smoothly (mostly because Elders weren’t in charge 🙂 hahaha) We even made a program!
The baptism was beautiful! Stephen was overcome with emotion as he entered the water! He is so so so happy!!!!!! The gospel has blessed him so much! He LOVES the church! He even showed his friend around the church building and bore wonderful testimony. Also, his sweet mom brought loads of food for afterwords! All in all it was an amazing day! The spirit was so strong! Stephen spoke with Sister Huntsman and I for a bit and told us how happy he is! I am so grateful that I was able to witness such an amazing event. He has come unto Christ and he knows the truth. He has found everything that he was looking for.
Khanyo is doing fantastic! The Elders are still teaching Emmanuel and he has set a date to be baptized on November 30th!
I’m sorry I don’t have too much time but honestly, Stephen’s baptism is really all that’s on my mind! haha I love you all so much! I hope you have a great week!

Week 31 Ireland

24 Nov

Dear Family and Friends,

I’m staying in Dublin!! Sis Huntsman and I will be together for another 6 weeks! We’re relieved about that! I’m just happy I get a companion for more than a transfer! hahaha Sister Rob is going to Aberdeen! 😦 I’m so sad that she’ll be so far away from me! But it’ll be grand 🙂
Stephen’s baptism is on Sunday! He is thrilled! And we are so excited for him! It’ll be a really good day that’s for sure!
Last Monday we had a really fun P-day! Most of the zone went down to Bray and we hiked Bray Head! It was so beautiful!! Stephen, Sean, and Sarah came! (You know Stephen, Sean is a member, and Sarah served here as a missionary and then came back to marry her husband!) It was so much fun!! The hike was steep and a bit hard but the view was worth it! The pictures I took don’t do it justice.
Well let’s see… nothing too major happened this week so this might be a bit scattered (story of my mind)
Friday night us, the Elders, and the McKendricks went over to Stephen’s house for dinner. His mom made the best food ever! It was so fun to there with all of them and get to know Stephen’s mom more. She is a doll!
The Elders are teaching Emmanuel now! It was sad to hand him over but it works better for his schedule. We will just see him at church. He is still doing wonderful and he desperately wants to get baptized! So that should be happening soon 🙂
Khanyo is lovely as always! Her little boy, Cyril stayed in nursery on his own for like 25 minutes!!! Khanyo has been trying to get him in there for so long! hahaha he’s a mama’s boy. So that was successful!
We had our ward Halloween party! It was fun for all the kids! Sis H and I were in charge of the “Mystery Box” booth. The kids had to stick their hands in gross stuff to find a toy insect. It was gross…. but everyone had a good time!!
Bleh well this email is lame! hahaha I am so sorry! I took tons of pictures so hopefully I will be able to send them all!
I love you all so much!! I hope you have a good week! Remember that Heavenly Father loves you!
